The board of Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica (ANEEL) decided at its public meeting today (March 27th), to open a public hearing from the period of March 29th to April 30th with the purpose to elaborate the auction notice for regularization of electricity distribution by public service within the geographical area currently served by the Departamento Municipal de Energia Elétrica de Putinga (DEMEEP) in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.
Electricity distributionin the city of Putinga, with about 4,150 inhabitants, has been provided informally and atypically by DEMEEP, which does not hold the right by concession to provide the service. The energy is obtained from concessionaire Rio Grande Energia S. / A. (RGE). In 2004, ANEEL determined that regularization of services must occur formally through granting of concession preceeded by public bidding. However, studies conducted by ANEEL and completed in 2009 concluded that the constitution of an autonomous concession bid to provide electricity services at the locality only is not fiasable. Thus, the process of regularization the service provision has begun through the incorporation of the aforementioned geographical area to an area where valid concession is existent, preceeded by bidding.
