The Hydroelectric Company of São Francisco (Companhia Hidroelétrica do São Francisco – CHESF) was the winner of the Transmission Auction No. 03/2012, conducted by the National Agency of Electrical Energy (ANEEL) on Friday (April 20th). The company won three of the four lots available at the event. In spite of the small number of competitors, the auction had an average discount of 22.8%, an important amount for the electricity sector. It means that the entrepreneurs’ revenues to explore investments will be lower than originally planned, contributing the implementation of lower tariffs for energy services. The Allowed Annual Revenue (AAR)* to be obtained after the entry into operation of the enterprises will be of R$ 38.6 million over the R$ 58.8 million that had been originally established.

The Lot C had the largest discount, of 33%. It consisted of the transmission lines: Pindaí II – Igaporã III, Igaporã II – Igaporã III and the substations Pindaí II and Igaporã III plus the sectioning of Bom Jesus da Lapa – Ibicoara transmission line in the state of Bahia. For Lots A and B, also won by CHESF, the discounts were respectively of 7% and 13%, in comparison to the AAR initially provided by ANEEL. There was no bid for Lot D, formed by the Itabirito 2 – Vespasian 2 transmission line, in Minas Gerais. This lot should be included in the next auction to be held by the agency.

The Director of CHESF, Marcos Cerqueira, said that the discounts were important, even without the presence of many competitors. It also emphasized the important role of ANEEL in promoting the expansion of the system properly.

The auctioned enterprisesshould demand R$  $ 522.6 million in investments, generating 3,089 jobs. The undertakings will have a deadline of 20 to 22 months. The transmission facilities will be built in five Brazilian states: Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará and Bahia. Read more. (PG / DB)
