The collection of financial compensation held in April for the use of water resources for electricity generation to cities, states and the Union, including royalties (compensation payable by Itaipu Plant), was of R$ 194.2 million. In the year (January-April), the figure rose to $ 728,880,000. Of this total, were distributed R$ 590.75 million as CFURH and $ 138.12 million in royalties.
The fundsin April were distributed to 688 cities in 22 states, the Federal District and to the Union, of which R$ 156.73 million were distributed by means of Financial Compensation for the Use of Water Resources (Compensação Financeira pela Utilização de Recursos Hídricos – CFURH). The transfer of royalties was of R$ 37.51 million to 342 cities in five states, the Federal District and the Union.
The values werecollected from 93 paying companies, which are responsible for 175 hydroelectric plants and 185 reservoirs. The data refer to consultation of the collection report held this Wednesday (May 2nd).
Municipalities keep 45% of the collection, while another 45% goes to the states. The money can be invested in health programs, education and security, but it cannot be applied to settle debt (unless the creditor is the Union), or for payment of staff.
The Unionreceives the remaining 10%, which are distributed to the National Water Agency (Agência Nacional de Águas – ANA), to the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico- FNDCT),to the Ministries of Environment, Water Resources and Legal Amazon and to the Ministry of Mines and Energy.
The collection and distribution of compensation and royalties are under the responsibility of the National Agency of Electrical Energy (ANEEL). The results are displayed in reports published on the Agency’s website www.aneel.gov.br, under Technical Information, Financial Compensation, Reports.
