In the first six months of this year, municipalities, states and the Union received BRL 904.4 million for Compensation for Use of Water Resources (CFURH) and BRL 220.6 million inroyalties(compensation payable by the Itaipu Dam).The total compensation came to BRL 1.1 billion in the period, according to data from last Monday (07/02).
In the month of June, the two types of compensation (CFURH and royalties) totaled BRL 185.4 million.Of this amount, BRL 143.3 million related to CFURH were distributed among 693 municipalities in 21 states, the Federal District and the Union, whereas the transfer of BRL 42 million in royalties reached 342 municipalities in five states, the Federal District and Union.
Municipalities receive 45% of the collection, whereas another 45% go to the states.The money can be invested in health programs, education and security, but cannot be used to reduce debt values, unless the creditor is the Union, or for the payment of staff.
The Union receives the remaining 10%, which are distributed to the National Water Agency (ANA), the National Fund for Scientific and Technological Development (FNDCT) and the Ministries of Environment, Water Resources and Legal Amazon (MMA) and Mines and Energy (MME).
