The Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) today (11/27) approved the tariff readjustment for Companhia de Eletricidade do Acre (Eletroacre) during a Public Meeting by the Board.Starting November 30 of this year, residential consumers served by the company will have their tariffs readjusted 8.50%.
See the indexes to be applied to consumer billing below:
Company | Consumption Class
Low voltage (under 2.3 kV) Example:Residences | High voltage (from 2.3 to 230 kV) Example:Industries
Eletroacre | 8.50% | 10% |
The average effect on the concessionaire’s consumers will be 8.80%.
The tariff readjustment process is one of the mechanisms for updating energy value paid by the consumer and continues regardless of the package of measures for tariff reductions announced in September by the federal government. The readjustments, approved during Agency Board public meetings, are applied annually for all concessionaires in the country, in accordance with the timetable established and the formula stipulated in the concession contract. The effects of the tariff reduction announced by the government will only be felt in February of next year, when the Agency will conduct an extraordinary review for all distributors.
Calculating the readjustment indexes, the Agency considers the cost variation the company had incurred during the reference period. The calculation formula includes typical distribution activity costs, plus IGP-M and the X Factor*, and other costs that do not necessarily accompany the inflation index, such as energy purchased from generators, transmission charges and sector charges. The approved indexes are the maximum companies can practice.
For more information about the tariff readjustment processes, consult the ANEEL website (www.aneel.gov.br), consumer profile, in the "questions and answers about electric energy distributor tariffs”booklet.
*Factor X is an index set by ANEEL at the time of the tariff review. It passes on to the consumer the estimated gains in productivity from concessionaires resulting from market growth and the increase in consumption by existing clients. The mechanism thus contributes towards tariff modicity.ANEEL Normative Resolution no. 234, of October 31, 2006 (Official Gazette of Nov. 8, 2006, section 1, pg. 111).
