Petrobras authorized to produce thermal energy in Rio de Janeiro

The company Petróleo Brasileiro S/A (Petrobras) has been authorized to act as an electricity self-producer* as from the implementation and operation of thermal power plant (TPP) Refinaria Duque de Caxias (REDUC), located in Rio de Janeiro. The thermal power plant, with 63.3 megawatts (MW) of installed power, will use Natural Gas as fuel.
 
The authorization was decided at the meeting of the college board of ANEEL held last Tuesday (1/15). Currently, Brazil has 283 power self-producers, 34 of which sell the surplus power produced.
