The board of the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) authorized the amendment of the implementation schedule of Thermal Power Plant (TPP) Porto do Pecém II, located in the municipality of São Gonçalo do Amarante, in Ceará. With the decision, the date of commencement of the plant’s commercial operation is to take place on May 18, 2013.
The plant was expected to commence commercial operation on January 1 this year. The entrepreneur in charge, the company MPX Pecém Geração de Energia S/A, submitted a schedule change request, claiming that the Grantor did not adequately fulfill the milestones set out in the schedule of the auction, which delayed the issuance of the grant in 137 days.
The technical area of ANEEL found that the company did not contribute to this delay, as it submitted, within the deadline, all documentation under its responsibility. Therefore, the Board of the Agency authorized the change of the date of commencement of the plant’s commercial operation. The TPP uses coal as fuel and has 365 megawatts of installed power. (DB)
