The board of the Brazilian Electricity Regulatory Agency (ANEEL) authorized the amendment of the implementation schedules of Thermal Power Plants (TPP) Maranhão IV and Maranhão V, located in the municipality of Santo Antônio dos Lopes, State of Maranhão. With the decision, the date of commencement of commercial operation of the power plants is expected to occur on April 1, 2013.

The plants were expected to start commercial operation on January 1 this year. The company Usina Termelétrica Paraíba Geração de Energia S/A, in charge of the implementation of the plants, submitted a schedule change request claiming that the Grantor did not adequately fulfill the milestones set out in the schedule of the auction, which delayed the issuing of grants of TPPs Maranhão IV and Maranhão V in 328 and 332 days, respectively.

The technical area of ANEEL found that the company did not contribute to the delays, as it submitted, within all documentation under its responsibility. Therefore, the Board of the Agency authorized the change of the dates of commencement of the plants’ commercial operation.

ANEEL also determined that, as from signaling of the National Electricity System Operator (ONS), the thermal power plants should be dispatched over 2013 for inflexibility, for the period of the delay in commencement of commercial operation, limited to three months.

The thermal power plants use natural gas as fuel and have each 337.6 megawatts of installed power. (DB)
